OCULOPLASTIC AND ORBITAL SURGEON (ACADEMIC / SEAMO)

The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Oculoplastic and Orbital Ophthalmologist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties. Preference will also be given to individuals who have completed 2 years of subspecialty training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery. The incumbent will be expected to have a busy oculoplastic/orbital practice, performing a wide range of adult and pediatric orbital, lacrimal and eye lid surgeries. The position requires the successful candidate to share comprehensive ophthalmology city-wide on- call service with the remainder of the Department (approximately 4–6 weeks per year) and to be available to consult with the on-call team about oculoplastic patients.

The Department has an excellent residency program in Ophthalmology (with 12–13 residents). The Department enjoys an excellent reputation for employing innovative and enthusiastic teachers for learners at all levels. The Department is well equipped with access to the main hospital operating room, as well as 2 well-equipped ambulatory surgical suites. The Department is highly innovative and is involved in new models of eye care delivery (including e-Consults and remote real- time diagnostics). The Department has a strong research culture that is supported by an in-house research team. Preference will be given to applicants who have a track record or exhibit potential for innovative and scholarly research.

GLAUCOMA -or- COMPREHENSIVE OPHTHALMOLOGIST (ACADEMIC / SEAMO)

The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Ophthalmologist, either a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist or a medical/surgical Glaucoma Specialist. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree with specialty training in ophthalmology +/- sub-specialty training in glaucoma. Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties.

Should the successful incumbent be a comprehensive ophthalmologist they will be expected to provide the breadth of care within ophthalmology including but not limited to seeing and caring for routine cornea, retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, uveitis, pediatrics, and neuro-ophthalmology cases as well as perform cataract surgery and other laser and minor procedures.

Should the successful incumbent be glaucoma specialist they will be expected to provide complex medical and surgical glaucoma subspecialty care, including the breadth of implantable glaucoma surgical devices (to MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The Department has a busy glaucoma service providing all the complex glaucoma care for the region. The service is well equipped with all the latest diagnostic and therapeutic devices (MIGS, MIBS, tubes). The service is highly innovative and conducts research into new models of eye care delivery. It has a fellowship training program, training 1–2 fellows per year.

While this will be mostly a clinical position, being an academic position, the successful candidate is expected to: provide teaching to medical students, residents and fellows; be involved in research; as well as perform some of the various administrative tasks required of the Department (leadership roles, committees, etc). Regardless of subspecialty, comprehensive ophthalmology call coverage is expected and shared amongst the members of the Department in an equitable manner.
